How It Works
The weight calculator uses the standard industry formula for calculating steel pipe weight:
Weight per Foot (lbs) = 10.68 × (OD - Wall Thickness) × Wall Thickness
All dimensions are in inches. This formula works for carbon steel pipes and is an industry standard. For exact weights, consult your pipe supplier as material density can vary.
What Is Weight Per Foot?
Weight per foot is the weight of one linear foot of pipe. This is essential for:
- Structural calculations: Determining load capacity and support requirements
- Shipping estimates: Calculating freight costs and handling requirements
- Material planning: Budgeting for large projects
- Installation: Planning equipment and labor for handling
